How to Use the FIO Protocol with the Edge App
The FIO Protocol, built by the Foundation for Interwallet Operability (FIO), is a decentralized layer that simplifies crypto by replacing complex wallet addresses with FIO Handles (e.g., "you@edge"). It runs on the FIO Chain and works with any blockchain. The Edge app (www.edge.app), a self-custody wallet, integrates FIO seamlessly. Here’s how to use it.
Register a FIO Handle
- In Edge, go to the "FIO Names" section by tapping on the the three line menu at the upper right.
- Select "Register FIO Handle" to claim a free handle like "yourname@edge" under the "@edge" domain. Custom names domains cost a one-time fee in FIO tokens or other assets.
Link Your Wallets
- Under FIO Names, map your handle to your wallet addresses (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) for easy multi-asset use.
- Tap on any FIO
Send Crypto
- Choose an asset in Edge.
- Enter the recipient’s FIO Handle (e.g., "friend@edge") instead of an address—Edge handles the rest.
Request Payments
- In any linked wallet tap Receive
- Enter an amount and then tap "FIO Request"
- Input the payer’s FIO Handle plus an optional note (e.g., “Coffee”). Send the encrypted request.
Why It’s Great
FIO Handles simplify transfers, and Edge makes it intuitive.
