Edge Wallet is a non-custodial app.
What does it mean?
Easy!
Edge does not have access to accounts or maintain any information about our users. During the account creation process, Edge never asks for your name, phone number, email or any personal information that ties your identity to an account. There are also multiple warnings that the password is known only to you and that Edge cannot see or reset it.
You, as an Edge user, are in full control over your assets and your private keys; you can spend and receive any amount of crypto from any part of the world and we don't even know that!
You can also export the private keys of your wallets and import them into other wallets you trust, or simply store them in a safe place offline, as a redundant backup.
So, full privacy (no KYC) and self custody, for a sovereign individual.
There are other services in the so called Crypto World that act as custodians: these are called custodial services/wallets.
An example could be an exchange or an app that requires you to register and maybe send some personal information.
How to recognize a custodial service from a non-custodial one?
The key is the private key!
If you cannot get the private keys of your wallets, then you don't have fully control over your assets and you are using a custodial service.
Think about custodial services as modern (crypto)banks: you need approvals if you want to move "your" funds, you need to go through complicated KYC procedures and you also risk having your money seized or your transactions censored, if the bank doesn't like what you want to buy.
So, if you want to be completely independent, you need to go with a non-custodial solution, and Edge is here for that!
But be careful: as Stan Lee wrote: "With great power comes great responsibility."
The security of your wealth is up to you: you need to memorize your credentials and enforce your Edge account security, with the tools we explain here "How to maximize my Edge account security?".
