Back by popular demand from our previous app Airbitz, Edge Wallet for iOS and Android now supports the ability for users to specify their own custom Electrum Bitcoin node to connect to. Retain full privacy and autonomy and connect to your own BTC node. You can also set this for any of the other cryptocurrencies you wish to use.
The Edge architecture by default connects to various Electrum based public bitcoin nodes to query and send transactions to the Bitcoin network. Part of that architecture, which is inherent to other mobile, light-client SPV wallets, is to choose nodes that follow the longest chain. However, Edge allows users to also specify their own list of Electrum nodes.
To do so, simply follow the steps below:
- Tap menu at the upper right
- Go into Settings
- Scroll down and select Bitcoin (or your choice of any other crypto)
- Tap and turn on Enable Custom Servers
- Enter the custom node (one per row)
- Hit Save
You can enter as many servers as you wish, but note that Edge will only connect to those that provide the best network connectivity. Once saved logout of the account and log back in. This setting is persistent to an account and will propagate between a user’s devices
We realize that part of the Bitcoin ethos is choice, and while consensus eventually needs to be met, the process by which we get there involves a vote on how to move the protocol forward. Edge hopes to enable users to exercise their vote and support their protocol implementation of choice.
