We are all excited to get a new phone or sometimes we have to because or loss or damage.
If you are getting a new phone (or to protect you in the event of a loss or damaged phone) please make sure you have a few pieces of information before handing over your old device.
- Make sure you know your username and password .
- Login and retrieve your 2FA code if you haven't already. You can find this by tapping Menu > Settings > Setup 2 factor. This step is important as if you do not have this code you can be locked out of your account for 7 days.
- If you already have the new device you can log it in using your old device as well. On the new device install Edge and then open the app. Tap on "Already have an Account?" and then tap the small QR code. Now on the old device enter your account tap Menu > Scan QR and then scan the QR on the new phone. Just like that your account will be on the new device.
A note about Edge two factor:
This is a security measure that's enabled by default and triggered when our servers detect a login from a new or un-permissioned device. This would include if the app was deleted and reinstalled.
For immediate access to your Edge account, you must either:
- Use the 2FA code (if you backed it up before this)
- Use a permissioned device to log into a new or un-permissioned device by scanning a login QR-code; or
- Wait 7 days to permission an unrecognized deice with valid login credentials
If you are on the original / only device, and did not make a backup of the 2FA key, then you will simply need to await the seven days to permission the fresh install. If an attacker had your account credentials and tried to access your account, they would get locked out, you would be notified of this and would be able to take action to prevent the unauthorized access. Edge does not have any control over, or ability to by-pass this code.
After the 7-day period, you will gain full access to your account. Once you're back in, we suggest that you go into Menu(≡) > Settings > Account Settings, to make a record of your 2-Factor Security key, and also create a Password Recovery token by setting up some Questions/Answers. If you store these securely, you can easily protect your Edge account and the assets inside for many years to come.
